Contract Negotiation Updates

From President Steve Gelios:

5/4/20 –  If you would like to give your input for the upcoming Kroger contract negotiations, please complete the contract proposal questionnaire at the link below.

5/18/20 – Negotiations have begun with Kroger. As things develop, the Union will update you. If you have any questions, please talk to your Union Representative.

6/24/20 – Due to the ban on travel for the Kroger bargaining team, and my desire to negotiate the economic issues face to face, Kroger and UFCW Local 2008 have signed an extension agreement through August 15, 2020.  This contract may very well be the most difficult we have ever negotiated, and I don’t feel that bargaining over a video call is appropriate.  All terms and conditions of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (the Contact) will remain in effect.  Once we resume bargaining, we will provide you with additional updates.  If you have any questions, please contact your Union Representative.  Thank you for your patience.

7/31/20 – Kroger negotiations are back underway. We have moved on to the economic proposals and as we get further along, I will send more updates. ‘When we speak with ONE VOICE, we cannot be ignored!’

8/17/20 – Kroger is proposing increasing employee contributions, raising out-of-pocket, & deductibles-while making it harder to qualify for insurance. How’s the Company proposal better for employees? If you have questions, speak to your Union Representative.

8/19/20 – From UFCW Local 2008 President Steve Gelios: How important is having good, affordable Health Insurance for you and your family???  Please click the link below and tell us how vital your Health Insurance is and what it means to you!

Please tell us in your own words what having good, affordable Health Insurance means for you and your family.  Do you have diabetes and need your insulin?  Have you had a surgery that could have bankrupted you without good insurance?  Whatever your story or needs might be, we want to hear from you!

At some point, it may be necessary to let the public know how Kroger is trying to destroy the current healthcare plan of their hard-working front-line employees.  The very same employees who put their lives at risk every day to serve the public – while making Kroger huge profits!!  By submitting your story, you are giving UFCW Local 2008 permission to publish your story.  Thank you for your help!

12/1/20 – Negotiations resume December 2nd & 3rd. Depending on the outcome of negotiations, we may be taking a strike vote next week.  Will update you as more information becomes available. Contact your Union Rep with any questions. In solidarity, Union President Steve Gelios
